Data Casting

Datacasting involves one-to-many (or multicast) dissemination of data. The data itself could be files (of any format) including web pages. Data to be uplinked to a WorldSpace satellite is first aggregated at the WorldSpace studio or is presented in a suitable format by the content contributor to the uplink site or Hub. Subsequently, an advanced scheduling mechanism at the Hub schedules the content for distribution via a WorldSpace satellite. Datacasting is the preferred way of disseminating information amongst closed user groups.

The WorldSpace Datacasting solution is also ideal for disseminating e-newsletters, e-magazines, e-books and other electronic periodicals. Datacasting in the specific context of the web, wherein, the multimedia content pertaining to a set of pre-determined web sites is fetched on a periodic basis and pushed to specific user groups is called WebCasting. WebCasting is an effective method of providing auxiliary educational content to supplement regular instructional material while simultaneously ensuring that unwanted and inappropriate content on the Internet is kept beyond reach of the students.

The recipients of the information are individually addressable and specific to each session of the transmission. The transmission features state of the art encryption and selectable level of Forward Error Correction. Also, each WorldSpace receiver is equipped with a data port that transforms it into a wireless modem able to download data to personal computers at rates of up to 128kbps.

Net2Radio

Net2Radio is a one-way based e-mail application that closes communication gaps. This application allows an Internet based user to send a 255 character e-mail message via the Internet to a single WorldSpace recipient or group of WorldSpace recipients within the Asiastar and Afristar coverage area who are not on the Internet. The recipient will receive the text message via a WorldSpace receiver interfaced to a personal computer (PC). The end user will automatically prompt to view the e-mail once received through the PC’s notepad application.

Distance Learning Technology (CLASS)

CLASS (Combined Live Audio and Slide Show) is an innovative solution developed specifically to address Distance Education requirements in developing countries. It uses live satellite broadcasting to deliver synchronous and asynchronous eLearning content beyond the reach of Internet, telephone lines and mail delivery. It supports live lectures based on PowerPoint® presentations with the possibility of real-time annotations. If the student’s location has Internet access it is also possible to raise a question in a text-chat mode during the class itself. The answers to the questions are delivered through the audio channel thereby benefiting all the listeners. CLASS extends the reach of the “best” teachers to virtually everywhere. It is unique in that CLASS is a cost-effective merge of content creation and delivery. It uses the WorldSpace broadcast infrastructure to provide for error free digital transmission of presentations, lesson plans and other multimedia materials.
