WORLDSPACE(R) Satellite Radio Celebrates Nine Years of Basement Bhangra(TM) Live From NYC's 'Sounds of Brazil'
'Basement Bhangra(TM) Countdown to 10' Party Delivers Powerful Mix of Bhangra, Hip-Hop and Urban Beats for WORLDSPACE Subscribers

SILVER SPRING, Md., April 3, 2006 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/-- WORLDSPACE(R) Satellite Radio, (Nasdaq: WRSP), one of the world leaders in satellite-based digital radio services, today announced that it will broadcast live DJ Rekha's "Basement Bhangra(TM) Countdown to 10 Party" from the legendary S.O.B.'s (Sounds of Brazil) club on Thursday, April 6 at 8:00 p.m. EDT. The event celebrates nine years of monthly bhangra music and dance parties at what has become one of New York City's longest-running international club nights.

Broadcasting live from S.O.B.'s in New York City, WORLDSPACE Satellite Radio will offer subscribers a powerful mix of bhangra, hip hop and urban music on its global pop channel UPop (channel 29), international hip-hop channel Flava (channel 204) and world music channel WorldZone (channel 100). The program can be heard globally across the company's coverage areas of Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East and in America via XM Satellite Radio and XM Radio Online, which carry the UPop and WorldZone channels.

As part of the celebration, DJ Rekha, British-born disc jockey and a pioneer of bhangra beats in the U.S., will spin live along side disc jockey Eddie Stats and performing dance artist NYC Jungi. WORLDSPACE program directors and on-air personalities Ted Kelly of UPop, Shawna Odour of Flava and Scotty Weimer of WorldZone will also host live interviews to introduce the freshest faces in bhangra, a music genre from India that fuses traditional Punjabi drumming with modern Western instruments and dance club rhythms.

"We are very excited about our live broadcast of Basement Bhangra's(TM) nine-year anniversary at S.O.B.'s," said Billy Sabatini, vice president of global content, WORLDSPACE. "DJ Rekha and S.O.B.'S have both helped to bring this unique music genre to the mainstream and we are certain that it will be another hit with our subscribers -- giving them exclusive access to some of the most diverse, high-quality audio programming to enhance their personal listening experiences."

WORLDSPACE airs "DJ Rekha Presents Basement Bhangra" live on the first Thursday of each month from New York City's S.O.B.'s club. WORLDSPACE delivers a variety of branded and commercial-free content, including jazz, rock, pop, classical and country.
